2-Hour Private Sightseeing Dolphin Tour in Panama City Beach

About this experience

We have a lot of companies that do boat tours in our area. I try to stand out by keeping my boat super clean, being very polite and family-friendly. I do everything in my power to make sure that my customers have a great time out on the water! We often are able to see dolphins and other marine life up close. If you choose to snorkel I can usually find us some sea urchins and hermit crabs we can hold in our hands. This tour can be customized to your liking just by letting me know what you're interested in.

2-Hour Private Sightseeing Dolphin Tour in Panama City Beach

Planning perspective

How I’d plan this experience

I’d choose this private two-hour cruise for a small family or friend group that wants a flexible spell on the water rather than a tightly scripted wildlife excursion. The appeal is the ability to shape the time around dolphin-spotting, Shell Island and, if conditions and your group’s interest align, snorkeling. With a maximum of six people, it looks particularly well suited to travellers who value a more personal pace over a larger shared boat trip.

Choose it for a small group with mixed priorities

My advice is to make this your pick when your party cannot agree on just one focus. The trip is private and can be tailored, so a group with eager snorkelers, wildlife-curious children and people who simply want a scenic boat ride has more room to compromise than on a fixed group outing.

I’d especially recommend it for families with school-age children or multi-generation groups who can enjoy a short, active outing without needing to fill a whole day. Feedback repeatedly points to wildlife explanation and choices about how to spend the time, which makes the experience feel more rewarding for curious kids and adults alike. Infants are required to sit on an adult’s lap, however, so I think families with babies should weigh whether two hours afloat will be comfortable for everyone.

Treat snorkeling as a worthwhile option, not an obligation

I’d bring swimwear and a towel even if snorkeling is only a possibility. Snorkeling equipment is included, and the itinerary explicitly recommends swimwear because splashes are likely even without going in the water. That makes this a better fit for travellers happy to get wet than for anyone hoping to stay perfectly dry and polished for plans immediately afterwards.

The strongest version of this outing is probably for groups ready to use the water time: accounts mention quieter snorkeling areas, shells, sand dollars and small marine life. Still, two hours is a compact window, so I’d decide before departure whether your priority is maximizing time in the water or lingering longer on the cruise and wildlife search; trying to do everything may feel rushed.

Keep dolphin expectations realistic

Wild dolphins are clearly the headline, and I’d book if seeing them would be exciting rather than essential. Sightings are often reported, alongside turtles and other marine life, but they are wild animals and numbers will vary. One account saw only two dolphins, yet still found the Shell Island stop and snorkeling worthwhile; that is the most useful expectation to take with you.

For that reason, I think this suits travellers who will enjoy the whole bay-and-island outing even if wildlife is brief. It is less suitable if your trip hinges on a guaranteed close dolphin encounter. The broader experience has enough potential texture—boat time, an island visit, snorkeling and interpretation—to make a flexible mindset pay off.

Plan for a simple meeting point and boat-day practicalities

I’d pack sunscreen, a towel and drinks or snacks in cans if you want them. Ice, water and a cooler are provided, while food and drinks are permitted but glass is not. This is a straightforward setup for a relaxed private outing, especially if your group wants to bring its own preferred refreshments without overcomplicating the plan.

The tour begins and ends at the same boat slip, with a short walk from the parking lot. I’d keep bags compact and use footwear you are comfortable carrying near the water. Children under six must wear a supplied life jacket while the vessel is operating, a useful detail for families planning what their child will tolerate.

Itinerary and highlights

This experience is a 2 hour PRIVATE sightseeing/dolphin cruise for up to 6 people. We run our tours in St. Andrews Bay and around the inlet to the Gulf. We make trips to visit beautiful Shell Island on every tour as well! I am an experienced local captain with 20 years of experience on our local waterways! On most trips we get to see wild dolphins up close in their natural habitat!

A cooler with ice and water are provided for each trip. You may bring food, drinks, & BYOB if desired but we are not allowed to have glass on board so please bring cans 🙂 We recommend you bring a towel, sunscreen, and swim wear is highly recommended. This is a water activity and there is a high chance of getting splashed even if we aren't doing any snorkeling.

Coast Guard laws require children under the age of 6 to be in a life jacket while the vessel is operating. We provide the life jackets at no extra cost.
